I have heard so many people say that they are afraid of or leery about shopping from Shein. I have been shopping there for over five years, and some of my favorite pieces in my closet have come from there. At the same time, I have returned my fair share of items because of poor quality or sizing issues. After five solid years of shopping with them, I think I have pretty much figured out how to shop successfully at Shein. And it’s definitely an art lol. Today I want to share with you my top tips for shopping Shein!
1) First, know your measurements! Shein is not like Old Navy or Gap or Banana Republic, where if you are a medium, you always buy a medium. Not even close! For every single item on their website, Shein will post a size info tab, where you can look at all of the measurements of each item. I ALWAYS compare my own measurements to the product’s measurements. I have ordered everything from an xs to a large in items, so although the sizing is all over the board, you can know exactly what size you actually need because of their size chart listed on each item! It’s also important to remember that Shein sells A LOT of cropped tops and mini dresses, so knowing even the length of dresses and tops that you prefer is important.
2) Always read the product reviews (and pictures are even better)! I rarely buy an item that is brand new and doesn’t have any reviews yet. I just know I’m taking more of a risk on those items. When items have several thousand reviews, I just feel more at ease about purchasing those items! Pictures are also very helpful. I have seen items that I thought were absolutely adorable until I looked at the picture reviews and realized that it gaped in areas, or it was completely sheer, or whatever odd thing there may be about the piece. Just always read reviews, and especially look for pictures!
3) Check the product’s description. There will be a tab on every item that will tell you the fabric, whether it has stretch to it, whether it is sheer, etc. When I first started shopping at Shein, I can’t tell you how many times I ordered something thinking that it was cotton, only to get it and it was polyester, or lycra, or some other type of weird fabric. Once I realized there was a product description on every single item, it saved a lot of surprises!
4) Don’t wait if you love an item! I have learned with Shein that if I love an item, I need to move on it! I can’t tell you how many times I have added an item to my wishlist and return the very next day only to find that the item has already sold out! Seriously. I’ve missed out on a lot of items because I tend to be an indecisive shopper. Many times I decide that I can’t live without a piece once it’s sold out, lol! So if you see something you love, get it before it’s gone! The picture below shows a bunch of items that I have bought from Shein in the past that I absolutely love but that sold out super quickly!
There are a couple of other things to remember about Shein. One, they offer free returns, and so you really are shopping risk free! Also, they have a rewards program. For every item that you purchase you receive reward points. You also receive rewards for posting written reviews, posting picture reviews, and even for just checking in to the app on a daily basis. All of these points can be applied toward future purchases. The points can add up quickly! If you’re looking for trendy pieces at a great price, Shein is definitely the place for you! I typically pay around $10 per item, and in my opinion that’s a really great deal. Don’t expect amazing quality at $10 per piece, but it’s worth it for items that are going to possibly be out of style within a year’s time anyway! Many people who shop Amazon brands would never buy from Shein for one reason or another, but what they don’t know is that many of Shein’s items are rebranded and put on Amazon. So sometimes they are buying Shein items and don’t even know it!🙃 Shein also has a marketplace on Amazon, though, so if you’re wanting to try out Shein through what may be a more comfortable avenue for you, you can search for Shein clothes on Amazon. Just know there is a much more limited selection on Amazon! Hope these tips help if you try Shein out! Happy Friday!!
